Psychotherapy &
Trauma therapy
with Lysander Verschuur
Psychologist & Trauma Specialist
I am a trained psychologist working with individuals experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues. I am here to support people through some of life’s hardest chapters.
My work is focused on the treatment and reduction of mental health complaints of individual clients, using evidence-based therapeutic methods.
I help clients move from states of overwhelm, constriction, and emotional distress toward greater stability, clarity, and psychological flexibility.
I help clients shift from heaviness, constriction, and hopelessness to a genuine sense of clarity, aliveness, and connection to what matters.
For years, I struggled with trauma, anxiety, and a harsh inner critic. I know firsthand how deeply these patterns can affect your life. This personal experience informs my work — not as a replacement for clinical methods, but as something that deepens empathy, understanding, and precision in therapy.
Everything I offer in therapy — from EMDR and ACT to mindfulness and values-based living — I’ve lived myself. I’ve practiced it, wrestled with it, and integrated it.
This personal experience shapes how I work: compassionate, pragmatic, non-judgmental, and fully committed to your growth. Therapy with me isn’t just about symptom relief — it’s about finding your way back to yourself, grounded in self-understanding, self-worth, and personal empowerment.

Eclectic, Integrative & Deeply Human...
As a psychologist, my approach is eclectic, integrative, and deeply human. I draw from a wide range of evidence-based methods, allowing me to tailor each therapeutic process to your unique needs and goals.
Whether you’re struggling with trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, or simply seeking clarity and direction — our work is a journey to reclaim your recovery and embody your vision, values, and empowerment.
I work integratively, drawing from evidence-based approaches such as:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
-
Schema Therapy
-
Somatic Psychotherapy
Including boxing as a psychotherapeutic intervention
Each of these methods serves a distinct therapeutical purpose, and together they allow for flexibility, depth, and precision in the therapeutic journey - with the aim of supporting lasting psychological change.
At the heart of much psychological distress lies trauma
— sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden beneath layers of beliefs, behaviours, or symptoms.
A Trauma-Focused Lens
At the heart of much psychological distress lies trauma — sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden beneath layers of beliefs, behaviors, or symptoms. I view many mental health struggles (like depression, anxiety, or self-worth issues) as rooted in difficult, painful, or invalidating past experiences.
I apply a trauma-focused lens throughout my work.
Where helpful, I integrate specific trauma treatments such as:
-
EMDR (to neutralize and process deep trauma)
-
Exposure Therapy (to face and integrate fear and trauma)
-
Flash (when trauma floods with emotions or dissociation)
-
Imagery Rescripting (rewrite painful emotional memories)
-
Schema Therapy & Parts Work (to bring care and leadership to wounded inner parts)

Not a one size fits all approach
I believe that effective therapy is not one-size-fits-all.
Every person carries a unique life story, emotional landscape, and psychological makeup. I tailor each therapy trajectory to fit the person in front of me — aiming to identify and address the core of their challenges as directly as possible, without unnecessary detours.
My approach is practical, goal-oriented, and collaborative: we work together to develop insight, emotional resilience, and concrete tools for change.

"I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude as I reflect on the therapeutic journey I embarked on with Lysander in 2023. At that time, I was experiencing the horrors of PTSD and depression, stemming from post-abortion struggles and the painful breakup of an emotionally abusive relationship.
Lysander, with his expertise in EMDR and therapeutic conversation, truly emerged as a guiding light in my darkest moments. He created a safe and nurturing space, allowing me to navigate the complex challenges I faced.
When I began therapy, I saw absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel. However, the progression I witnessed throughout our sessions was nothing short of remarkable. Today, I can truly say I have found happiness and contentment. Lysander’s dedication extends beyond traditional therapy — he is a true life-changer.”
